[A neverending chase for knowledge, huh... Mikleo feels like he's seeing the real Abasi for the first time, rather than just the veneer of snark-and-stay-away. Perhaps they're not so different after all.]

Unfortunately, I don't have any relics on me. From what I remember, though, the language was written in hieroglyphs. Each one was a squarish shape and bore various symbols resembling the natural world. I should be able to draw them up for you.

We called it the ancient tongue. Seraphim are the only ones who use it now, though... mostly in their true names, which they're born knowing. Sorey-- that is, Rosewood-- he's fluent in it, too.

[Well, he kind of it, tbh. Abasi's realized that Mikleo isn't going to leave him alone, so he's not going to try to force the issue. Congratulations on reaching the same category as Yuuki and Kaveh, Mikleo.]

Interesting. If you have some time, I'd love to see what you could draw up for me... Sounds like Heiroglyphs were the closest you could pick from 'modern' times?

So, you and Rosewood then... but you said it was from a dead and ancient world. Is this related to the memories, or are you just that old?

I can make time. I'm not busy at the moment.

And yeah, they're more reminiscent of what was in Ancient Egypt than anything else I've encountered, though admittedly I don't have the breadth of knowledge that you would. I haven't spent much time in South America, for example.

Ah. No, it's to do with our past lives. I'm actually 28, though I know I don't look like it. [LMAO] But I have a significant portion of my memories from that other life, and I lived a few hundred years or so. The memories get foggy after that.

I see. I haven't had many from my past life yet. Mostly of trees, a jungle, and a desert... I believe that's where I once lived.

I'll add that to my collection. What do you know of it so far? [Yes, he has a book of things from 'odd' languages that he wants to look into while he's in spirit realms.]

Well, yeah. I became a seraph at 16 and I haven't really aged noticeably since then. I probably won't until I reach the peak of my power.

Maybe as we explore the Spirit Gates here you'll remember more? It seems like external stimuli is good for that kind of thing.

I put together a rough estimation of what the alphabet looks like compared to standard English. Some of them I'm still fuzzy on, but from what I can remember of how it's spoken, I think it holds up.



The ancient tongue is weird. It's technically a dead language only found on ruins of considerable age, but at the same time, the people who spoke it-- the seraphim-- were very much still alive. It suggests to me that a huge divide happened at some point that prevented humans and seraphim from dwelling together like they used to, but I'm not sure what. It's all lost history.

That explains it then. You still look in your teens. [That must be hell if he ever tries to buy tobacco or alcohol.]

I'm hoping so. Especially considering how much traveling between them I'll be doing in the future. It seems an intriguing place, and I'd like to know more about it.

[There's a pause between messages here, as he's looking at that alphabet for a moment.]

Interesting. I'll keep my eyes open for anything using this script and bring back photos if I can.

And yes, I do have a collection. It's a combination of photos, pencil rubbings, and my notes.

I'd say I get that a lot but being invisible spares me from that. [So much sighing.]

As would I. That's why my area of research is what it is.

[Mikleo waits patiently while doing other things. He's sure that Alhaitham must have insights he doesn't, being a linguistics professor and all.]

That would be very helpful, thank you. If it shows up in worlds that aren't destroyed, it could have massive ramifications.

Oh, I see! Like a journal. I had something like that in my memories.

A set of journals would be more correct. I was one of those students in school who took copious notes and it carried into adulthood.

In the spirit of teamwork, you can come by and look at them if you'd like. Just let me know before you do so I can make sure my apartment isn't a disaster.

Well, good note-taking isn't a bad skill at all. I had a whole binder full of notes from my time in POKEPUPs, but I left it behind when everything... you know.
